Correction Policy

We welcome corrections

Halal Kitchen Atlas is written by humans and reviewed by humans, which means we make mistakes. When we do, we want to hear about it. Correction is how the site gets better, and it is how we earn the trust of the Muslim community whose food traditions we work to represent.

This page explains how to send us a correction, how we handle it, and what to expect.

How to submit a correction

Send corrections by email to corrections@halalkitchenatlas.com. Please include:

• The URL of the page you are correcting.
• A brief description of what needs to change.
• Any source or supporting information — a cookbook, a scholar's ruling, personal family knowledge, or a link to a certification body's page.
• Whether you would like to be credited by name in our correction log or prefer to remain anonymous.

What we review corrections for

We accept corrections in four categories:

• Halal accuracy — if an ingredient we described as halal is not halal, if a brand has reformulated, if a certification has changed, or if we missed an ambiguous ingredient that should have been flagged.
• Cultural accuracy — if a recipe does not match how a dish is actually made in the culture, if a regional attribution is wrong, if a cultural claim in the intro is inaccurate, or if a technique is misrepresented.
• Religious accuracy — if an Islamic dietary claim on a Learn page is inaccurate, if a scholar's view has been misrepresented, if madhab differences have been ignored, or if a religious occasion is described incorrectly.
• Factual accuracy — if a historical claim, a date, a nutritional figure, a certification body name, or any other verifiable fact is wrong.

Response time

We acknowledge every correction email within three business days. We investigate and, where applicable, update the page within fourteen calendar days for most corrections. Complex corrections that require re-verification by a cultural or Islamic content reviewer may take up to thirty days. If a correction requires longer investigation, we will tell you.

What happens when we verify a correction

When we verify a correction, we do all of the following:

1. Update the affected page.
2. Update the "Last verified" date at the bottom of the page.
3. Add an "Editor's note" at the end of the article that briefly acknowledges what was wrong and what has been changed. We do this rather than silently changing history.
4. Log the correction in our public correction log (below), so readers can see our track record.
5. Credit the person who reported the correction, if they consented to being credited.

If a correction affects related pages, we update those as well.

Public correction log

Our public correction log records every substantive correction we have made. Each entry includes the date, the affected page, a summary of what was wrong, and what was changed. Personal information about the corrector is included only with their consent.

What we will not change

We will not change content based on:

• Personal preference for one style over another where both are traditional. If you cook a dish differently than we describe and both versions have cultural backing, we may add your variation as a note rather than rewriting our version.
• Requests to hide our use of halal alternatives to non-halal ingredients. Substitutions are clearly labeled by design.
• Requests to remove our credit for cultural or Islamic content reviewers.
• Attempts to influence editorial judgment by advertisers, sponsors, or affiliate partners. See our Advertising Disclosure and Editorial Policy.

Where a correction request is declined, we respond explaining why. If we are wrong to decline, please tell us — we welcome the pushback.
